BOISE DOG WALK TO RAISE AWARENESS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY LAWS IN IDAHO

COME TO THE BOISE BLACK DOG WALK THIS SUNDAY!

Attendees at the Independence Black Dog Walk will have the opportunity to sign a petition to make animal cruelty a felony in Idaho. Walkers will also be able to pick up instructions and petitions to gathering additional signatures on their own. Advocates are trying to get 60,000 signatures of registered voters to get the initiative on the November 2012 ballot. The walk begins at noon on Sunday at the Boise Ram Restaurant and Brewery east parking lot, 709 E. Park Blvd.
Idaho, South Dakota and North Dakota don't have felony animal cruelty laws.

Dan and I had a weekend getaway to Hailey (Sun Valley) Idaho at the Spruce Inn, which was a cool little bed and breakfast right off downtown Hailey.  Go Living Social Coupons!  Basically we had the run of the house and there were two cool dogs-in-residence that were golden retrievers, and one little weiner dog who thought he lived there and refused to go home.  We ate dinner at da Vinci's Italian restaurant the first night, which was very good, and the next day headed up to Redfish Lake in Stanley (after locking our key in our room - sorry Kim!).  At Redfish Lake, which I had visited as a young teenager but Dan had never seen, we rented  a small motorboat for an hour and took a tour around the lake.  Dan was very brave to drive another boat (he swore he never would again after Florida!)  Great trip, thanks to my baby for arranging everything!

While were visiting Lyle and Linda, the we took the opportunity to spend some quality time with our girls.  We visited a most unique place right in Spanish Fork called the Krishna Temple.  It looks like the Taj Mahal in the middle of Utah.  It's an east Indian religious temple, they have beautiful works of art and Lamas and other animals (they are vegetarian and pacificists) and we got to take a tour of the facility.  We also bought several souvineers while we there.  We then took off for the SLC zoo, but we never made it there because we had a flat tire right on the freeway and then had to go to Sam's Club to get it fixed, and by then it was too late in the day to make to the zoo.  So we settled for the SLC Library, which might sound boring but it was a very impressive library and piece of architecture.  It had floor after floor of books (so of course, I could live there) but what made it so cool was how welcoming it was.  It had shops and common areas and you could even go up to the rooftop area and see the whole of SLC.  We really enjoyed our trip there.  We ended our day by going to Red Lobster, where the girls split 1 1/2 lbs of crab legs!  All in all, a Very Good Day!~

We had a great time going to Hailame's farewell in June.  We got to see almost all the family, which was really, really great!  Lyle and Linda threw a big party to say goodbye to their eldest son, who is off to Ghana, Africa on his mission for the LDS church.  Thanks for having us, Lyle and Linda!

Misi Kinikini, A GOOD ONE

After a long battle with cancer (long in hamster years - to us it was 3 months) our wonderful little hamster MISI passed away.  It probably seems strange that we loved her so much, but she had a wonderful way about her and a gentle spirit, and she loved everything about life.  She loved her "fresh" and rolling around in her ball at night.  Not once during the year we had her did she ever bite or nip anyone, even when she must have been in great pain.  Sierra cared for her lovingly during her last days.  We actually took her to the vet and she had a little hamster operation for the tumors (yes, again, we know we are weird) but they returned.  We miss her every day, when we don't go into the laundry room and see her there.  She is buried near the raspberry bushes in our back yard, which I'm sure would make her very happy, since she loved raspberries.  Misi, you will be missed by our family, all the more because you are the last hamster we will ever have.

A little burro out back of a restaurant we stopped at to get ice cream (there were goats too)
We took a wonderful trip in May to visit our friends Todd Van Sickle and Steve Taylor. Along the way we stopped at a wonderful little place called the Village Green in Oregon.  We got it off Living Social and we got our room, a wonderful dinner a a bottle of wine for $80.  The dinner alone came out to $60!  They have 20 acres of  gardens there and it was very restful.  We also stayed a night in Bend, OR.  It's a very hip and trendy little town, beautiful and well manicured, very college town feel even though there's only a community college there.  We had dinner at an Asian restaurant and it was really good.  Dan worked too much on the whole trip, that was the only bad part about it.  While we were there Todd and Steve treated us really well.  We had dinner at one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever eaten at.  It was amazing.  Todd has his house fixed up so cute, and he demonstrated all the music he has for his player piano for us that night.  We got to see Steve's office (he's a psychologist), drank too much wine and had a great time.  The trip back we were tired from travelling, Dan was especially tired from driving, but he is so amazing, he just does what needs to be done and never complains.  I wish I could be more like him.
